| What is a trip to Clyde, Ohio if you don't hear about Sherwood Anderson, b. Sept. 13, 1876, d. Mar. 8, 1941, and Winesburg, Ohio (1919). | ||||
| "Winesburg, Ohio" (1919) is a collection of short stories about the people of a small town in Ohio (Clyde). This book established Sherwood Anderson as one of the best American fiction writers of his generation. | ||||
| Sherwood Anderson was born in Camden, Ohio and raised in nearby Clyde. He began his writing career in 1913 after having served in the Spanish-American War, working as a copywriter in Chicago, and managing a paint plant in Elryia, Ohio. | ||||
| Anderson's First novel, "Windy
McPherson's Son" (1916), was set in Iowa although Clyde was used as
the basis for the setting. A second book, "Marching Men" followed a year
later. In 1919 his book "Winesburg, Ohio" was published. This book is generally
described as a group of loosely connected short stories about small town
people. The people were real and lived in Clyde. Even today it is possible
to visit the real life settings found in this book.

I have searched off and on over the years for Sherwood Anderson links and posted them on this page. Unfortunately, those sites or pages do not stay around for long. I'm now offering this Google Book search link and Google Web search.
